To the woman who is unprovided for

"You have three girls in the family? How are your parents going to marry off you all with no money?"

"You don't have any brothers? Who is going to look after your parents when they are old?"

Such questions followed me everywhere I went. Life's mission became proving these questions invalid.

Childhood and adolescence were spent burying myself in books and studies because I wanted a way out from the place which questioned my existence.

Half the lifetime was spent in making a career and having enough money to support me and the family.

Now the same people come back with a different set of questions and statements.

"You are not married? Who will look after you when your parents are gone?"

"We thought of buying a saree for your mother. She doesn't have any sons to do this for her."

The irony of these questions in my life is beyond explanation. But you know, what is there to explain? Will they ever understand? I don't think I will see that day in this lifetime.

Let me quote Deborah Levy and call it a day!

Boom! It was true that I was unprovided for, but then I never expected anyone else to put the baguettes on the table.
