What is a cause you’re passionate about and why?

Reading has changed my life for the better. As a kid, I read everything that I came across, without paying much attention to the genre or quality. Though it created a thirst for knowledge, sometimes I do wish that I had proper guidance and access to better books. Everybody should have access to books despite their backgrounds. This is a cause that I hold very dear to my heart and I believe that this will help in building a better world for everyone.

Around three years ago, I came to know about The Community Library Project. They are committed to creating free libraries that are accessible to all. In addition to that, they work with students to cultivate the habit of reading with effective strategies. They are based out of Delhi, India. I live on the opposite side of India and it is not practical for me to take part in any form of volunteering. So my contribution is limited to donations.

“I tell my students, ‘When you get these jobs that you have been so brilliantly trained for, just remember that your real job is that if you are free, you need to free somebody else. If you have some power, then your job is to empower somebody else. This is not just a grab-bag candy game.”―Toni Morrison

The above quote by Toni Morrison has been an inspiration for me to do the little bits of help whenever possible. I believe we owe at least that much to humanity.

If you believe in this free library concept, please do donate to TCLP here.
